The rupee fell five paise to 62.36 against the dollar on Tuesday on fresh demand from banks and importers for the U.S. currency, which strengthened overseas.It opened at 62.30 per dollar as against the previous close of 62.31 at the inter-bank foreign exchange market. It dropped to 62.44 on fresh dollar demand from importers before ending at 62.36, a loss of five paise.
The 30-share index, which had lost 43.09 points in the previous session, fell further by 39.47 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 20,815.45, led by losses in stocks of banking, oil and gas, auto and FMCG sectors. While The 50-share CNX Nifty on the National Stock Exchange slipped 16 points to end at 6201.85.

In the Asian region, Japan’s Nikkei was down by 1.46 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng by 0.80 per cent in early trade on Wednesday. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.59 per cent lower on Tuesday.
