The Indian stock markets opened on a subdued note on the first trading day of 2017, with profit-booking after recent gains. The stock markets displayed subdued investor sentiment owing to profit booking and rupee depreciation. Sensex declined 31 points at 26595 and Nifty closed at 8179 with 6 points loss. In Broader Market, maximum sectors ended in the positive zone with BSE Auto sector was the highest gainer followed by BSE Metals, BSE Small Cap and MidCap. Nifty MidCap closed 131 points up at 14483.
Indian Currency, Rupee was trading lower by 24 paise at 68.16 against US Dollar.
